PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE: A TRIBUTE TO THE SMITHS

Some of today's best indie artists, including; The Wedding Present, Doug Martsch (Built To Spill), Tanya Donelly w/ Dylan in the Movies, Telekinesis, William Fitzsimmons, Kitten, Greg Laswell, Sara Lov, Katy Goodman (Vivian Girls), and so many more exclusively recorded popular Smiths songs for this outstanding double-CD.

Praise for Please, Please, Please...

"...Several big names turn out to show their interpretations of Moz & Marr’s classics: Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch supplies an easygoing “Reel Around the Fountain”, while Telekinesis provide a raucous cover of “Sheila Take a Bow”. There’s also an unexpected appearance from Sixpence None the Richer with a warm, sunny take on “I Won’t Share You” and a fuzz-drenched rocker version of “Hand in Glove” by The Wedding Present. The best (and furthest straying) of these is Girl in a Coma’s backwoodsy, foot-stomping “Rubber Ring” cover.
Surprisingly, it’s the lesser-known names that steal the show: Kitten’s spacey, upbeat take on “Panic”, Cinerama’s sample-peppered, soothingly ambient cover of “London”, and Tonya Donnelly and Dylan in the Movies’ soft, heartfelt acoustic version of “Shoplifters of the World Unite” are all showstoppers. Dala’s smoky cabaret cover of “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me” is possibly more heartbreaking than the original. Mike Viola and The Section Quartet swap heavily tremolo-ed guitars for moody strings on one of the more unique versions of “How Soon Is Now?” laid to record. Listing every solid track’s merits would take too long; there’s hardly a dud among the two-disc set’s 40 tracks.

American Laundromat Records has assembled an outstanding and highly varied assortment of Smiths covers for their tribute record. Each and every artist shows a reverence and love towards the material they’re working with; many take respectful liberties with their songs, giving a refreshing take on the music for those who know every lyric by heart and perhaps shedding a new light on the band for those who don’t fall into The Smiths’ cult worship camp." -Austin Trunick, Consequence of Sound

PRIMAL SCREAM SCREAMADELICA LIVE

It seems that just about every band that has run out of ideas and money goes rummaging back through the archives to do a live re-run of the glory years. For Primal Scream who have been together (believe it or not) nearly 30 years, Screamadelica is a record that the band have never really escaped or been able to move on from. For fans of the seminal album, unlike the band, it’s probably a record they never want to escape from. With its uplifting themes of togetherness, love and drug-induced acid house vibes – Screamadelica was the defining record that fused rock and electronic music as one.Nearly 20 years on since its release, in a freezing barn out in west London, Primal Scream bring the audience back to warmer climate and let us forget the cold weather for just a little while. Songs like ‘Come Together’, ‘Loaded’, ‘Moving on Up’, with their euphoric lyrics and general strong ingredient of serotonin, have a crowd of 8,000 moving like its 1991. Such is the enthusiasm of the booze flowing, and general carnival like atmosphere, at times, the gig sort of feels like a football match. For the downbeat tunes such as, ‘Higher Than The Sun’, and ‘I’m Coming Down’, where Gillespie doesn’t know when to call it quits with the five minute repetitive vocal loops, people make for the toilet or the bar, waiting for the next big hit to cheer them up.Despite the grandeur of the show and array of psychedelic visuals, the band show they can go back to basics on the beautiful ‘Damaged’, which Gillespie manages to deliver pitch perfect even if it does sound like a Rolling Stones cover. Some bands know their limitations, and when the audience does as well, they know what to expect. In terms of nostalgia and general feel good music, it all worked. Heading back into the cold night, 1991 seems like a distant dream.

COLDPLAY MYLO XYLOTO

[Download]
"We've already got lists of song ideas. We never stop writing. We go into the studio with all the best laid plans then what we end up with is not what we intended. It's just exciting to wonder what will come out the speakers in a year's time. We have very exciting things lined up. It's time to take our music down different directions and really explore other avenues."[6]
In one interview, Chris Martin predicted the style of the incoming album as being less dominated by fanfare, and featuring a more "stripped-down" sound.[7] He also said that the title of the new album "will probably begin with an M."[8]
In 2008 Coldplay established a recording HQ at a disused bakery in Primrose Hill, North London, where they recorded Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.[9] However they relocated to a vacant church, also in north London, to begin work on their fifth album in collaboration with Brian Eno.[10][11][12]
After confirming several festival appearances, the band premiered new songs at their Rock im Park (Nuremberg, Germany) live performance. "There was a fair chunk of new material tonight - a whole six songs of it - only one tune of which anyone in the audience stood any chance of having heard before," said Roadie #42.[13] The names of the new songs coined by him were "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall", "Princess of China", "Major Minus", "Hurts Like Heaven", "Charlie Brown", and "Us Against the World".

The iTunes Store lets users hear one new song from the album everyday until the album's release date.

The album will be available on the 24 October 2011 on CD and on vinyl. A special edition of the album that includes the CD, digital copy and LP disc along with copies of the bands studio notes, stencils, a poster, a pop up book and stickers will also be available on the 12 December 2011.
The album's first official single, "Paradise", was released on 12 September 2011.[30] That same day, Chris Martin announced that Rihanna would be featured on "Princess of China". [31]

On 19 October, "Princess of China" was confirmed by Billboard as the second single from the album. It will be released on 25 October.
On 9 September 2011, the band announced that they had finished the album, posting a picture of the track listing on their website.
